    A suburb to the east of the city of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, is Carlton. Carlton is referred to in Domesday Book of 1086 as Carentune. In the 19th century, Carlton grew up with textile industry like other parts of Nottingham. Urban District of Carlton became part of the Gedling Borough in 1974.

It is built in the style of a Roman Basilica and resides in the diocese of Southwell and Nottingham at the bottom of Carlton Hill. Carlton Hill is the shopping street.
