Carlton

A suburb to the east of the city of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, is Carlton. Carlton is referred to in Domesday Book of 1086 as Carentune. In the 19th century, Carlton grew up with textile industry like other parts of Nottingham. Urban District of Carlton became part of the Gedling Borough in 1974.

The centre of Carlton, Carlton Square is a shopping centre. Carlton Laundry is on Primrose Road. On Nottingham to Lincoln Line is Carlton station. Built on Foxhill/Carlton Hill and Carlton Central Primary School, a school was relocated there. On Carlton Hill, the school had been intended to replace the deteriorating St. Paul's School.

In Carlton, Carlton Central Primary School is not the only school. Foxy Creeks Pre School (in the Richard Herrod Centre) and Good Foundations Day nursery include pre schools & nurseries that Carlton has. Known as MADD, the Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama is in Carlton. Champions of NCE Division One in the 2005-2006 season were Carlton Town Football Club.

In 1947, actor Richard Beckinsale was born in Carlton. Carlton was part of Rushcliffe parliamentary constituency until 1950. A leisure centre is Carlton Forum. It is built in the style of a Roman Basilica and resides in the diocese of Southwell and Nottingham at the bottom of Carlton Hill. Carlton Hill is the shopping street.
